- If producing one piece machines like the A1200 offers so much advantages
- in cost of shipping, production, pakaging/shipping, power supplies etc.. Why
- don't we see one piece PC's and Macs(not including integrated monitors). Even
- the cheapest PC clones come with detached keyboards. Here in Canada late last
- year a major electronic chain was clearing all it's low end 486(33-66 mhz) clone
- PC's starting at $500 depending on configuration. They all came in tower or
- desktop cases. Any PC clone company would love the chance to lower cost on their
- competion an they still do not produce one piece boxes. I remember Tandy making
- a one piece PC XT in the early eighties may be that is why PC companies stay
- clear of the idea now.
-
- If I wanted a new case for my DELL486 full TOWER machine. I could
- easily pick one up for $30 but for my A500 that option is too expensive. I
- did order a A1200 WITH!! HARD DRIVE from a local dealer which I never recieved
- because of C= death now I am awaiting Amiga Techs next mid-range machine. If
- it is good I will buy it but please no more one piece cases until the Amiga
- starts to gain some ground over here in North America. There are advantages to
- Tower/desktop cases. We could use normal sized hardisks in the low end Amigas
- instead of paying double for low capacity 2.5" HD's. Expansion products will
- also benefit if they could be used by all Amiga because the market is small
- enough. I am sure most of you can also add to this list so I don't have to
- waste time.
-
- If cost is that much of a problem for AT here is one suggestion.
- They could produce the same mid-tower case for all Amigas changing the label
- sticker/plague to show the type of machine (motherboard that is in case).
- This would created a new clean proffesional identity for the Amiga. In the past
- non amiga owners I know confuse the 3000 models for PC's while they reconized
- a picture of an A500 or an old bulky A2000 as Amiga machines. While you can
- reconize even the newest MAC from a mile away or an IBM brand PC.
